How You Reprogramme Your Brain to be More Positive
It is said that humans have an average of 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts in a day. And speculation based on many studies suggests that out of these thoughts, around 80 percent are negative, in most cases. The exception, meaning optimistic thinking, comes with some inheriting it and some psyching their brains to think positive.

While inheriting is not in your hands, reprogramming your brain is absolutely possible. There is always some room for developing positive outlook, even if you are not gifted with optimism. And, most successful people are those who have trained their brains to be optimistic even when things go out of control. Science also shows that those with an optimistic outlook have better cardiovascular health and a stronger immune system.

Perennial cribbing, stress and depression is a deadly mix and some people are always consumed by bad days on a regular basis that they cannot get out of it after a point. It affects their personal and professional growth and health in long term. So, better late than never when it comes to take charge of your thinking. As author Robert H. Schuller says, "It takes but one positive thought when given a chance to survive and thrive to overpower an entire army of negative thoughts." Here are two effective ways to that. One, by journaling, two by doing what you love the most.

Write down four to five positive questions for yourself

Write down something like the following and ask yourself the same three to four times a day, for a month. You will surely see a difference in your thinking.

  1. What can I feel grateful for right now? Negative people are so focused on the negative that they forget to look at the positive things that surround them. They don't show gratitude towards their friends or family members, and they take their blessings for granted. They may have the best of job profile or they may be the best looking people, but they will be remembering only the tiny negatives that they might have. They will only be sharing the miniscule negative points of their lives. Ask them if the glass is half empty or half full, for them it is always half empty. So, by asking yourself what you are grateful for, you will see a lot of change in your thinking. Gratitude is really important.
  2. How can I bring smile to somebody's face right now? Past studies has revealed that negative people tend to focus on the bad in the world around them, making them more likely to experience angry outbursts that take attention away from the work they are doing. The emotional effect creates a visual tunneling that stops you from being in the present. So, look around, give a shoutout to someone and see how you change yourself.
  3. How can I have fun right now? Why does a child always stay happy and positive? The only thing a child thinks at a given time is 'how to have fun'. As you grow up, you forget that the whole purpose of living is to stay happy at this present moment. So, figure out one thing that you can do right away that will make you happy. It could be something as simple as dancing or singing.
  4. How could I express my love for someone? Say, gift, help or even shout to express your love for someone every day. This will immediately rewire your brain to feel positive about life.

Make time to do what you like the most every day

You will find only few people who do what they love to do and make a living out of it. They are truly the lucky one. If you are not one of those lucky people, you will always stay negative. So, best thing to do is stop cribbing and find a way out. You should take out say 15 minutes a day to do what you like the most. That is the minimum you can do for yourself.
